    1) We have a charity designation! The charity choice for 2016 will be BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISTERS! With what the QCPH hopes to raise during the 2016 event, BBBS says it will be able to match 150 (!) "bigs" with "littles" in Scott and Rock Island counties!! THAT is exciting!

And 2) We have a contract for the main entertainment for the night, Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf! From New Jersey, welcome JIMMY & THE PARROTS! You are going to LOVE this high-energy band! Jimmy & The Parrots was voted the Trop Rock Entertainer of the Year for 2015! AND ... stay tuned for more entertainment announcements within the next week or so.

    3) Get your HDD 2016 tickets ($25 per person, which included the 1-5 preparty and the 6-12 main show) NOW, even though the event is 7 months away. Last year it was a sellout, and we expect that again. Only 750 tickets will be sold. Also, if you are wanting a reserved table, there are only a limited number of those (8 tickets, special table decoration, tables that are closest to the stage, $240) and those SOLD OUT last year before Oct. 1. Go to www.qcph.com to get your tickets!

Tickets for the 2016 HDD are now on sale on the QCPH website – qcph.com – with July 1 being the same date as they went on sale for the 2015 event. Ticket prices remain the same – $240 for a reserved table, $25 for individual tickets. Each ticket will be for all of the Saturday, Feb. 27, activities – the Preparty in the afternoon and the HDD event that night.

REMEMBER – Reserved tables SOLD OUT in just 3 months in 2015! So if you are considering getting a table, the sooner the better.

You can access the HDD ticket registration at www.qcph.com. It is on the July EVENTS calendar, as well as other months.

Also, room reservations can now be made at the Isle of Capri. Probably because of the sold-out success of the '15 HDD, room rates went up slightly for 2016 –  $104.99 for one or two persons in a row, $114.99 for the three in a row, and $124.99 for four. The room rate includes a total of two complimentary breakfast buffets at Calypso's Buffet per room reservation & two $10 FanPlay vouchers (play $10 Get $10).

QCPH hotel guests can call 1-800-theisle (1-800-843-4753) and have them identify themselves as group code WPH0401 for reservations.   MAKE SURE YOU USE THE PARROTHEAD CODE to get the rate!!

Quad City Parrot Head Club members:

In an effort to stimulate volunteerism and participation, the Quad City Parrot Head Club board has voted to initiate a reward system similar to the one used by the Isle of Iowa Parrot Head Club.

The Isle of Iowa annual honors its top parrothead, using a points system as its incentive, at its birthday bash. A lot of our system is going to look a lot like their successful system. Great ideas are often stolen ones, and we thank the Isle of Iowa for our groundwork.

The QCPH plan will begin in earnest on Jan 1 and will culminate on Nov. 31 of each year, with a QCPH “Parrot Head of the Year” awarded at the club birthday party, held in December.

The dues-paying member with the most points will receive the award, along with a free, one-year, single membership to the club, and other benefits. Any member with current dues will be eligible, except for current Board Members. To accumulate points, you must be a member in good standing.

Parrot Points will be available upon request for your review to ensure your points have been recorded correctly. In the event of a tie or discrepancy for the “Parrot Head of the Year,” the Board will make the final decision.

The QCPH will be giving it a “trial run” from July 1 to Nov. 31 of this year, with a prize to be determined.

Parrot Points are assigned as follows:

3 Points -- Attending a monthly Social (make sure you sign in on the sign-in sheets).

1 Point – Donating items to our charities at monthly Socials. This is one point per donation category per person (up to a maximum of 3 points). (We will have new signup sheets that will have a donation box that you can check when you sign in)

5 Points – Bringing a friend to a monthly Social for the first time. You will be asked to record the friend’s name on the sign-in sheet and will only get credit one time for that friend. **** You will receive another 3 points if your friend joins the club and your friend will receive 3 points also for joining. ****

3 Points – For selling 50/50 tickets at a monthly Socials or other event.

2 Points – For being an active member of a committee and attending committee meetings, with the maximum of 8 points acquired per event for attending meetings.

10 Points – Chairing an HDD or Golf Outing committee.

3 Points – Volunteering to work at an event and completing an assigned shift.

1 Point – For attending a Board Meeting, Havanna Daydreamin’ or annual Golf Outing

5 Points – Participating in an event that the club is partaking in, aside from the regular Socials. I.E: Parades, Highway Cleanup, Run/Walks for Charity would be eligible. Attending other Parrot Head Club Phlockings and House Concerts are included. Hosting a House Concert will earn 5 additional points.

    Quad City Parrot Head Club's
    1-2-3 SOCIAL! Reflection --   June '15

What you were there for, what you might not have paid attention to,
or what you wished you would have been there for
(and didn't your English teacher tell you to NEVER end a phrase with a preposition?!?!??!)

June 24, 2015, Legend’s, Rock Island... 63 QCPHers in attendance

Charity Component: Project NOW fan drive. Parrotheads donated 33 fans to Project Now. Which prompted Social Director Mike Koester to remark, “Those must be Cubs fans because there aren’t that many Cardinals fans.” To which Andy Anderson quipped, “So that means they won’t work in September.” Line of the night.

New members: We have a new member, but a very familiar member. Gina Calsyn of Rock Island is the one who has made the cookies for the golf outing afterparty for the past two years! Welcome Gina! 1-2-3 Social!!

50/50: $360 total, $180 to winner Lisa Crandall and $180 to her charity of choice, Project NOW, which is the recipient of this month’s charitable items.
Holly Brosnan won the Legends T-shirt from the name badge drawing. Remember to always bring your name badge to a Social!

                                     News you need now
The bus for the QCPH Cubs-Cards trip to Busch Stadium will leave the Motel 6 parking lot (near the airport) at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Those on the sold-out bus should be in St. Louis in time to enjoy Ballpark Village before the 6:15 p.m. June 27 game. The Cardinals and the Cubs have 2 of the 3 best records in the National League and 2 of the 5 best records in all of Major League Baseball.
                                             News that was
Havana Daydreamin’ 2015 is now in the books, with a check presentation of $21,000 to USO Illinois. Co-chairmen Marc Nesseler and Tina Sims presented the check to USO Illinois’ Jackie Inman at the June Social.

And so, eyes turn to HDD 2016! As they were a year ago, tickets hopefully will go on sale on July 1 at the club web site, qcph.com. This will be for reserved tables ($240) as well as individual tickets ($25). Remember, reserved tables sold out for this past year’s event in just THREE MONTHS.

And while on the topic of HDD, there will be a charity meeting on July 7 that will go through charity requests. It is hoped that at that meeting the list will be pared to 2 or 3 that will make presentations. Also yet to be announced is the entertainment, but we are very very very close to doing that.

                                           News that will be
John Deere Classic parking volunteer opportunities are here. There are still openings for either shift (6-11 a.m. or 11 a.m.-3 p.m.) on Friday, July 10, the afternoon shift on Saturday, July 11; and the morning shift on Sunday, July 12. Please consider helping out and volunteering a few hours to help raise money for QCPH charities! Plus, those volunteering receive a free anyday pass to the John Deere Classic! Email Anke at ankejean@hotmail.com to reserve a spot.

Today is the Kelly McGuire house concert at Fairfax, Iowa, hosted by the Isle of Iowa Club. Go to the Isle of Iowa web site for details. Also mark your calendars for Oct. 3 for the Isle of Iowa’s big fundraiser, Island Fever Phlocking.

Robert Meyer has free tickets to the July 1 River Bandits game, sponsored by the Quad City Homebuilders Association.

Saturday, Oct. 24, has been earmarked as a QCPH Trivia Night that will help cover HDD expenses. Mark your calendars and look for details within the next couple of months.

Saturday, Dec. 5, is our own “house” concert, with the Southern Drawl Band returning to play at the Plumbers & Pipefitters hall in Rock Island, hosted by several QCPH parrotheads. Again, be on the lookout for details.

                                  UPCOMING SOCIAL
    * Wednesday, July 22 – This one has been moved up a week because of the July 29 Beach Boys concert at the iWireless Center. It will be the last Social arranged by outgoing Social Director Mike Koester, the only social director the QCPH has known until Brian Wilson takes over in August. The charity component will be school supplies.
And speaking of the Beach Boys concert, Mike has arranged a special ticket deal for QC parrotheads. Big QC Parrot Head Club & Quad City Mallards news!
Parrothead Night at the Mallards will be Saturday, Feb. 7, at the iWireless Center in downtown Moline, and the Mallards are giving parrotheads a great price break and a great game to watch. Tickets for the suites right below the main scoreboard, which have a regular cost of $25, will be available to parrotheads for $14. Just call Zac Wilken, Mallards ticket manager, at (309) 277-1364 and make sure you mention the Parrothead Rate. These are great and fun seats!
The Mallards will be playing Wichita that night. As of the ECHL standings right now, those two teams are tied for second place in the Central Division of the Western Conference, just two points each out of first place! Key game!
The most parrotheads the QCPH has had at such a special Mallards game is 35, last year. It's time to set the hockey bar way, way higher!

If you are booking a room at the Isle of Capri for the 2015 Havana Daydreamin' fundraiser, here is the information you will need to get the parrothead rate:

If you want a room for either Friday night, March 27, or for the night of HDD, March 28, you must follow these instructions. Call 1-800-theisle (1-800-843-4753) and identify yourself as group code WQCP124 for the reservations, if you don't g...ive them the code then you won't get the reduced rate and you won't be in the same tower as all the other people from our club and other clubs.

The cost of the rooms are $99.99 plus tax with an additional $10.00 per person up to 4 people in a room. If you have problems with your reservations please email me and I will see if and I can get the problem resolved, email the QCPH club president, weldn_willy@hotmail.com

If you order Havana Daydreamin' 2015 tickets from the qcph.com web site, they will be mailed to you. Your address is attached to the Paypal transaction. The only tickets that are not mailed out are those that are done within a week of the event. Hopefully, with the anticipation of a sellout, we won't have to worry about that this year.

     1-2-3 SOCIAL! Reflection -- August '14

What you were there for, what you might not have paid attention to, or what you wished you would have been there for
(and didn't your English teacher tell you to NEVER end a phrase with a preposition?!?!?!?!)
August 27, 2014 ... The River House, Moline
    ....approx. 90 QCPHers in attendance.

Charity Component – Tube socks for Stand Down … and QC Parrot Heads are just amazing! A total of 459 PAIRS of socks were collected to help homeless veterans.

50/50: You’d better sit down for this one … Kathy Koester did not win. I know, I know … total shock. This month’s winner is Janet Lindstrom, who won $223 of the $445 total (that amount being yet ANOTHER amazing QC Parrot Head fact). Janet chose Winnie’s Place to be the recipient of the other $222.

Also – Whomever was in charge of the beautiful weather that allowed the Social to take place outside at the River House … Bravo!

    First, this month’s news –

The August Social marked the presentation of another BIG check. OK, it wasn’t the big one that is always worthy of a photo opp, but it certainly was BIG in the fact that it was for $4,100 – proceeds of the annual QCPH Golf Outing, this year held at Saukie Golf Course on June 28. The recipient was Christian Care, and Ann Ring, grants and donor relations coordinator for Christian Care was on hand to excitedly receive the check.

“We are thrilled!” said Ms. Ring. “This money will provide professional counseling for 30 children that we serve (in dealing with domestic violence). Your donation will help them in overcoming their past trauma.”

“I want to give a big thank you to the volunteers to help put together the golf outing on short notice,” said TJ Griffiths, a co-chair of the event. “You all did a fabulous job! In fact, I’m going to say that I will put my toes in the water for next year and chair the golf outing again.” Plus, Christine Martinez added her toes to that same sand and will help TJ in running the 2015 QCPH Golf Outing.

TJ also gave a shout-out to Brian Wilson for helping spearhead the golf-outing sponsorships. In fact, there were at least TWO sponsor placards for each of the 18 holes this year!

New member: Brooke Mitchell of Davenport joined on the Cubs-Cardinals Bus Trip in July (and actually was the winner of the new-member drawing on the bus for the Ernie Banks Autographed Baseball!)  Welcome Brooke --1-2-3 Social!!

    Mark Your Calendars!
Saturday, Sept. 13: The next opportunity for the QCPH Highway Cleanup. Meet at City Limits on 9th Street at 9 a.m. It should take about an hour for the cleanup along Blackhawk Road.

Sunday, Sept. 14: The annual Feeding Frenzy, which will be at Ridgewood Towers in East Moline. Volunteers, which are needed, should show up at 3:30 p.m., with serving the elderly at 5 p.m. Those who wish to donate pies (and sugar-free pies are needed as well) but cannot stay to volunteer can drop those off at Ridgewood Towers at 3 p.m. Those wishing to volunteer who have not already signed up can contact Breanne Jayleen via Facebook.

“This is one of the most rewarding things we do,” says Social Director Mike Koester. “The joy on the faces of the elderly we serve is well worth the time put in.”

Monday, Sept. 15: The next planning meeting for Havana Daydreamin’, 6 p.m. at Legends on 30th Street, Rock Island. Of particular note is that the committee is in urgent need of about six QC parrotheads willing to address envelopes and make followup calls for auction items. Last year only 3 volunteers did this job and it was overwhelming. More volunteer help on this is a must if we are to continue having such a successful event. PLEASE step forward and help. Contact either President Willy Fink, HDD chairmen Marc Nesseler and Tina Sims or auction chair Anke Maass.

Saturday, June 20: Time for a Road Trip. The Isle of Iowa’s “Island Fever Phlocking” fundraiser will be from 5:30 p.m. to midnight at the Coralville Mariott. It’s charity will be the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight. Go to the Isle of Iowa’s Facebook page for details about tickets and hotel stays.

Sunday, Sept. 28: Just added Wednesday night from the Social because Quad Cities Marathon race director Joe Moreno was dining outdoors at the River House at the same time as the Parrotheads. Joe asked if the QC Parrotheads would be willing to man one of the 15 water stations during the marathon and by the look of a show of hands, it appears that will happen.

“I am hoping that the Quad City Parrotheads will take ownership of that particular area of the race, and I would love it if the Parrot Head Club would have the best one of them all,” said Moreno. Yeah, you can get he knows of the club’s penchant for having a good time while serving the community!

    * Wednesday, Sept. 24 – Bier Stuebe in LeClaire. Social director Mike Koester announced that Bier Stuebe will provide live entertainment. Charity component: Bottled water for Rock Island County Children’s Advocacy Center.
