News you need now

The Tugfest Parade is coming up quickly, on Friday, Aug. 9. It will be in LeClaire and the QCPH will have a float and walkers. Assembly will take place at 2:30 pm. and parrot heads are asked to assemble at 4:30 p.m. for the parade start at 6. Watch for a Yahoo post from parade chairman Bob Anderson on the gathering location. Club members will be passing out leis and HDD save-the-date cards.

The Cubs/Cardinals bus trip will be Saturday, Aug. 17, and there are still a couple of spots left on the bus. The cost is $105 which includes the bus trip, game ticket and adult beverages on the bus. Since it is a 3 p.m. game, the bus will leave from Motel 6 in Moline at 9 a.m. (which is much better than last year's 6 or 7 a.m. departure). If you are interested, email social director Mike Koester (mkoe50@aol.com) quickly.

News that was

* A new club photo was taken on the bank of the river at Ducky's. We had about 70 members, which is what we had the previous Social at the Black Ram. We'll keep that one in the archives and you never know when we might assemble for another, hopefully at a Social in which we hit triple-digits.

* The QCPH had its "changing of the guard" at the Social, with new president Willy Fink thank former president Jan Haugen for her years of board service. "Jan did a fantastic job," Willy said. "I've got some big shoes to fill, but with the help of the club, we can achieve my goal of this club being bigger and better. It is the social members, the administrative members and the board members that make this club what it is."

* Some great HDD live auctions have been obtained by Mike Koester. Through his connections, he was able to get a guitar signed by all of the Heartland Jam musicians, including Kelly Pickler and Darius Rucker, and yet another guitar signed by country music star Toby Keith! It looks as if this has the makings of the best live auction in what will be HDD's 10-year history! Plus, an announcement will be forthcoming within the next couple of weeks that will make the the 2014 HDD entertainment lineup one of the best if not THE best. Stay tuned!!

News that will be

* The next Havana Daydreamin' fundraiser committee meeting will be Sept. 30, 6 p.m., at The Barrel House in downtown Moline (nice place!).

* Wednesday, Aug. 28 -- This one will be at the Captain's Table on River Drive in Moline, where the Quad City Parrot Head Club first began! The first organizational meeting took place at the Captain's Table. Deja vu ...

* Wednesday, Sept. 25 -- This one will be at the Bier Stuebe in LeClaire.

* Wednesday, Oct. 30 -- This one will be at the new Barrel House in downtown Moline.
