1-2-3 SOCIAL! Reflection --   November '13

What you were there for, what you might not have paid attention to,

or what you wished you would have been there for

(and didn't your English teacher tell you to NEVER end a phrase with a preposition?!?!?!?!)

November 201, 2013 ................. Caddy’s, Bettendorf  ..................... 70 QCPHers in attendance.

Charity Component: Toys For Tots! And the QC parrotheads came through with 112 new toys! Guessing an average of $20 per toy, that would be over $2,200 in new Christmas toys for needy Q-C children! Huge SOCIAL there!

New members: Not a new member, but a very unique parrot visitor! John Pool of St. Louis saw online the fact that there was a QCPH Social on this night and also noted that it was a Toys For Tots night. He travels for business and was in the Quad-Cities, so … he stopped by a store and bought some new toys, mapquested Caddy’s and showed up to meet have dinner and a few drinks and meet new friends. Not only did he appreciate the Q-C friendliness and hospitality but he was tremendously impressed with its generosity of which he can say he was a part!

50/50: $420 total, $210 to winner Tom Tilton of Moline and $210 to his charity of choice, the Alzeimers Association.

News you need now

The Festival of Trees parade will be Saturday. Check your Yahoo emails for updates on the meeting time and place for the parade that will run through downtown Davenport.

News that was

Prayers, thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Karla, Brad (& Christie) and Merilee Buckrop on the passing of their father. A collection was taken for flowers.

QCPH President Willy Fink returned as a sponsor with the QC Honor Flight (the Havana Daydreamin’ charity in 2014) in late October and offered a recap touched with emotion. “It was the best trip I have ever been on in my 49 years of being alive,” said Willy, who was with an 88-year-old WWII veteran and an 85-year-old Korean War veteran.

News that will be

This section is everything HDD!

The next HDD planning meeting will be Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. at Goombazz’s on 18th Avenue, Rock Island.

Ticket sales are going briskly, as are hotel reservations. QCPH has a block of 150 rooms at the Radisson in Davenport and 127 of those have been taken. There also are blocks of rooms with parrothead rates available at the Blackhawk Hotel in Davenport and the Holiday Inn in Rock Island, the latter which will have a shuttle to the event just across the bridge. See the website for hotel reservations.

“This one is going to be huge,” said president Willy Fink. “Places are literally coming up to us and saying what can we donate to HDD and the Honor Flight, instead of us going to them.” The event will be Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Davenport RiverCenter, the 10th anniversary celebration.

Also on Friday night, there will be an intimate jam session on the 7th floor of the Rock Island Holiday Inn with Tall Paul and Quincy Yaetes of Ramajay Intercoastal. Details of that are still be worked out as far as admission, but you will not need to be staying at the Holiday Inn to attend but event reservations likely will be required. Stay tuned for details. That’s going to be something very unique and special as well.

Tickets to HDD are $20, and tickets to HDD and the Saturday afternoon PreParty (with trop rocker Jim Hoehn performing), this year at the RiverCenter as well instead of a block down from the hall, is only an additional $5 (down $10 from past years). Tickets can be purchased through the website or at the December Social or at HyVees starting in December.

There is still a need for VOLUNTEERS! It takes 250 to put on this event, so whether you are a charter member or a first-year member or anywhere in between, WE NEED YOU. Contact volunteer coordinator Kelly Miles (kemil32000@yahoo.com) to offer even just an hour of your time that day.

UPCOMING SOCIAL

* Wednesday, Dec. 18 – This one, at the Wells Fargo Lounge at Highland Park Bowl on Avenue of the Cities in Moline, will be a special one. It will be a 10th Anniversary Party Social and will you must be a QCPH member in good standing to attend. There will be free food as well as one drink ticket per person. There also will be games and prizes, so bring your game faces ;) This Social also will be the annual holiday GIFT EXCHANGE. If you want to participate in that, bring a wrapped gift with a value of $25 and join in the fun … it’s a BLAST! There was even a rumor at the November Social that the Liquid Panty Remover that was so popular at the 2012 Gift Exchange could make a return appearance!
