Willy was asked by if we wanted to have a float in the Coal Valley parade, when he asked members at meeting no one wanted to head this up so it was voted that we not participate in the parade.
The charity committee had voted on some guidelines for choosing charities so it is in writing and not just ‘what we have always done’. Willy brought up putting them in the buy-laws which Jan wanted to table that until she could discuss these with Cheryl before decision made. Deb indicated that the charity committee just wanted to set forth guidelines for them to follow when choosing charities and they don’t necessarily need to be in by laws. It was suggested to just add more questions to the funding application.
Marc Nesseler is stepping down from Communications Director July 31st. He has discussed this position with Dee Robbins who will take the position with Marc’s assistance. Yes, he will assist her along with others.
There was discussion on moving in a different direction with the club in regards to website, social media, using event brite, accepting credit cards all the time along with the costs and upkeep of different options. It was brought up that according to PHiP each club does need to have a website. Social media can be used which would have an underlying website. Email Dee with communication ideas and these will be research for costs before decision.
Marc said cost for The Boat Drunks was $2800. Whiskeys Gone is a Zac Brown tribute band out of Peoria and they will charge us $2500 + hotel rooms. Marc will talk to both bands about what happens in case there are weather restrictions, are we still liable to pay them? River Center asked us if we wanted to move to The Mississippi Room and after discussion that room is smaller and would limit us on attendance again. Willy will reply that we want to stay in the main room. Date is Feb. 28, 2018 and an HDD meeting is scheduled for the second week in August. Board voted on The Boat Drunks and Whiskey’s Gone for 2018 HDD pending their inclement weather policy. Marc wants to keep the Pub Crawl with the $300 prizes, that was a real hit.
Tara Boling presented information about herself in regards to the upcoming election for President. She has been at Enterprise Car Rental for 19 ½ years and manages 160 employees. She wants to spread information on the club over social media. No ideas are off the table, she is open to listening and discussion on all ideas. She would like to see more of a balance in the charity and social sides of the club and bring back house concerts which members have been asking for.
Laurie McCune provided a resume with bullet points of the direction she wants to take the club. She wants to unbiased in her leadership and look at the club’s direction, why has membership dropped. Some people like the social aspect, others like the charity aspect and some just like to listen to Jimmy Buffet music. She would like all aspects included. She would like to implement information classes on fun items such as yoga, healing oils, wine tasting and any other ideas members have. She wants to make it fun to help charities. Laurie also wants to address our taxes with a different attorney and contact the IRS if needed to get answers.
